you might be surprised... i've seen code with variables that do use such
characters... then there's the contents of string lists and the like...
especially when writing apps that can use different languages for their
output... FPC and Lazarus have been undergoing a lot of work on how they handle
multi-byte characters... i haven't been able to wrap my head around what
they're doing, though... delphi went one way and FPC/Lazarus went another...
delphi, being stuck with winwhatever, uses UTF-16 whereas everyone else uses
UTF-8... automatic ""codepage"" conversions are done in some places and not in
others... using the wrong routine can really farkle the data in the
variables...
