Sorry, but line noise knocked me off and I guess that much of my message 
was saved. 
I was about to say that yes they are steel, but not enough to set off the 
sensor. After all, there is a minimum mass necessary. Otherwise one iron 
filing would wreak havoc with traffic signals :-)
