| subject: | Re: TO C OR NOT TO C |
Hi Chris, CW> Just wondering what your thoughts about teaching Year 12 CW> students a particular language? My thoughts are either Pascal CW> or C etc. People have told me Pascal is the learning language, CW> but I have read that C is possible a better one to learn. CW> Please reply? Or anyone else? C is a great working language, but some of it's concepts are harder to teach, especially as a first language. Pascal was designed to be a neat & tidy language for teaching. So, if your aim is to teach programming concepts & skills then go for Pascal. OTOH, if you want your students to learn a language with the job market in mind then teach them C. However, I would be wary of trying to teach C unless you are very familiar with it. The subtleties can drive you crazy! :-) Pascal is often used in algorithm books , so most C pragrammers can read it, even if they can't write it.
