Bi> eggs from my
Bi> chickens, I had a shortage of egg cartons. So I told the people I
Bi> work with
Bi> that I'd give them a dozen eggs for every two cartons they gave me,
Bi> but that
Bi> I'd only be doing it for a short while. The cartons rolled in! Now
Bi> that I've created a demand for the eggs and people are familiar with
Bi> the quality,
Bi> its not too dificult to find people who want some.
Pretty good idea for getting some quick cartons and word of mouth going. Yo
may think it's funny, but I thought the big companies were the farmer's only
customers, And the reason so many farms were going under was because the
companies had less and less to spend on more and more productive farmers. D
most farmers hold 9-5s?
Bi> also have a friend who runs a produce stand on weekends and he'd be
Bi> willing to let me set up a cooler at his stand and offer them for sale
Bi> there. So far, we don't charge relatives for eggs, we ask neighbors
Bi> for $1 a doz. and at work I ask $1.20 but offer a 20 cent discount if
Bi> they provide their own carton. If I begin selling them at the produce
Bi> stand, I'll probably ask $1.25 or $1.50. After all, they *are organic,
Bi> free-range eggs!
Free-range?? I don't get it? But it does sound like a 'green' name :)
Bi> As far as the hay goes, you're right, it wouldn't be hard to find
Bi> a market for it. Unfortunately, not only do we need all the hay we
Bi> grow for our own livestock, but last year, because of the arrangement
Have you ever grown enough hay to support yourself? (IE not buy any) What
livestock?? Just cattle, or do you breed work animals?? *THAT'S* the kind
of farming I'm interested in! What do you know of mad cow disease?? I
remember it being in the news a while back, but I never learned anything
about it.
... What do you mean? You actually read this Tagline?!?
