Hey mark!
ml> do the whole thing in one of today's scripts?
bash is today. I am guessing tomorrow as well. However my old rule of thumb
used to be that when a script starts looking like source it is probably the
right time to whip out the compiler.
ml> python, perhaps?
NEVER!!! I'll leave python to the MS hackers and other such lowlifes. :::evil
grin:::
ml> it might make it easier to maintain, enhance and possibly even
ml> share with others O:)
I think c code would be the best. Also with glibc it would have access to the
good stuff such as proper datetime stamps - especially proper UTC offsets - as
well as providing native utf8 compatibilty. Mind you if I do write it then
I'll need to change the name since WeBeBashing wouldn't exactly be true
anymore. Anyhow I am not planning to rewrite it as c code ... yet.
One thing I've noticed so far is the usage of coreutils' shuf for randomizing
the taglines looks to be a keeper. I originally was using bash's RANDOM but
have taken a shining to shuf since it appears to provide a better distribution
of randomness. What do you think?
Life is good,
