Not it's not -- fixed DTE rate is a relatively new invention, it did not
appear until either MNP or v.42.
 
Older modems (e.g. Hayes Smartmodem 2400) do not support fixed DTE and
autobaud with the remote. 
 
Maximus supports both styles. Or at least it did in 2.01wb, and presumably
still does.
 
The caller's baud rate is also of interest to Maximus, because there are
minimum baud rates for certain features.
