Amen.

For sure. It was a mess right from the start but now that nobody is using
16-bit machines, or at least it is highly doubtful, we're starting to see
the results of extremely poor planning for the future. If they hadn't used
int's in the formats then porting would have been a breeze.

BP> i still love what Tobias maked or makes if he still do :-)

I thought he 'retired'.

It is already compiled and running. It is safe to drink once you see the
demonstration. :-)

You'd have to do the gentoo portage stuff. I am not using gentoo here.

BP> show me a linux that runs on 16bit even on 8bit :-)

There isn't one. I think minix might still support 16-bit but I sort of
doubt it. Maybe.

MK>> Try compiling any DOS related source and see what happens.

syslinux. Try compiling that in pure 64-bit and see how far it gets before barfing.

MK>> without altering the source. I'll bet it can't be done.

 BP> emerge -av mtools

64-bit? I highly doubt that.

BP> you realy hate me know ?, gentoo have the world of most sources, why
 BP> not use it ?

Because I've invested too much time doing all this the hard way. Gentoo
didn't exist when I started with Linux.

BP> but do we need 16bit anymore ?

Not an issue if file formats used strings and/or characters instead of
int's and sometimes float's (QWK and bluewave comes to mind).

Life is good,
Maurice
