-> First off, it is unlikely that that you are currently still
-> placing calls manually through an operator assisted switchboard;
-> possible, but most unlikely. Most likely event: your analog
-> central office switching equipment is being upgraded to digital
-> equipment manufactured by a famous Canadian telco equipment
-> manufacturer (NorCom)
I don't think it's operator assisted, but I know for one thing, It's a
lousy switchboard.

-> Here in Fresno, CA we have mostly Lucent (formerly WesternElectric)
-> manufactured digital switching equip. This has had a negative
-> impact on my Courier v34+ VEverything modem for local BBS calling.
-> For longdistance BBSing, a slight improvement. For x2 calls to
-> U.S. Robotics BBS & AOL services, Lucent 5ESS model 2000A digital
-> equipment presents no problem whatsoever. I have had no experience
-> modeming with other equipment providers Electronic Switching Systems.
How much worse are your connection speeds now than they were before the
digital switch was put in?
-> Just for FYI, PacificBell exists in name only. It has now been
-> assimilated 100% by SBC, Southwestern Bell Corp., headquartered
-> in Dallas, TX.
Well, maybe SBC will shapen up the company.
-> I would suggest you log and capture as much of your modeming
-> activity as possible now, so's you'll have comparison material to
-> work with after the May 31st cutover.
I'll do that, thanks.
