I bought a very large radio (boom box, in the vernacular) for my girlfriend a
couple of years back. It worked and has continued to work very well. An
identical unit purchased by her friend due to her recommendation died during
the first week.
Though it probably doesn't sound like it based on my posts in this echo, once
I find the right scanner, I fully intend to keep using it for many years. I
don't invest near as much time and effort into getting great performance out
of a TV or a radio as I do out of a scanner.
