Try this in your .bashrc

alias list='ls'

Then reload the bashrc by typing ". .bashrc" from the command line.

Here's what I have aliased in mine:

alias XQ3='startx /usr/bin/quake3 -- :1' alias gnib='/usr/games/gnibbles'
alias hdtest='/usr/bin/hdparm -Tt /dev/hda' alias hdtune='/usr/bin/hdparm
-d1 /dev/hda' alias l.='ls -d .* --color=tty'
alias ll='ls -l --color=tty'
alias ls='ls --color=tty'
alias netscape='/usr/local/netscape/netscape' alias print='lpr $1'
alias trace='/usr/sbin/traceroute $1' alias vi='vim'
alias which='alias | /usr/bin/which --tty-only --read-alias --show-dot
--show-tilde'
