It is, indeed, the hardest thing any of us have gone through, but we have

I did discover VOCAL, somewhat inactive, as you say. I went to a VOCAL
meeting in Reno, and met Thelma Mathias, who started a chapter in Reno
because of a false charge against her son, also involved w/VOCAL.  Admire her
greatly.  She's determined to make a difference.  Reno VOCAL needs funds to
go forward.  I told Thelma I'd ask if it's proper to let it be known through
BBS conferences that they need funds.  Do you know?

Thank you for confirming this.  I _just_ wrote to George Wimberly, and I
truly hope for some help.  Seeking help so far, has been discouraging. I
wrote to some senators, some ministries, even to the President and Janet
Reno.  The general response is something like, "This is out of our
jurisdiction (field of endeavor, etc.)..."  I know there are isolated groups
and people who yearn for an organization to address the problem of the
wrongly accused, convicted and/or imprisoned (even an accusation leaves
families tremendously harmed): I just need to find them, and help others and
ourselves.  What we'd like to find is an attorney who'd jump in with his/her
whole heart and help us.  We would cover expenses.  We believe that the
"public officials" who do these wrongs should be made accountable.

You don't know how good it is to have found places to discuss this with
others who know about or who have experienced similar injustices.  A sorrow
shared is a sorrow halved.  Not only that, but it is bracing and heartening
to the spirit to feel that one is not alone in such a serious battle.  Thank
you so much.  There must be a reason _you_ are involved in these issues...
Yes, there is something you can do: if you can (and I gather that VOCAL,
et.al. are consuming interests of yours(?) help us find actual help, that
would be most welcome.  Now that I have the off-line reader, I'll be more
active in conferences.  It was frustrating before.  At the end of this month,
my husband and I will go to Houston (job-related) for 3 months, but I guess
I'll be able to continue with these conferences via computer & Fidonet magic.
