My professional opinion is that if people have trouble reading your web
page now, then they won't visit it again in future except by accident.
Don't cost your client any business just because you want to do
something fancy.
Write your page for the lowest common denominator. Use a web page
statistics service to see exactly what browsers and operating systems
are visiting your page. When you know who's visiting then you can tailor
your pages for them.
Writing different pages for versions 3 and 4 is certainly an option that
many have done.
