Hi, Greg.
GM>> AP> What I want, Edward, dear, is to be able in GeoWrite and GeoDraw
GM>> AP> to select some lines of text and change them from uppercase to
GM>> AP> lowercase or vice versa or to initial caps without having to apply
GM>> AP> a different font or retype and to have macros for repetitive
GM>> AP> keyboard sequences. It's all I've ever wanted all these years.
GM>>Oh YES, YES, YES.
Great minds do run in the same channels, don't they?
GM>>I certainly miss these features in GeoWorks. Why, oh WHY did
GM>>they forget to put them in? Even Micro$oft provides them in
GM>>Works and Word.
I guess they didn't do them because Ensemble is a graphic environment
operating system (GEOS!) and those kinds of text manipulation features
were not a priority of the designers.
When I think I will want to use certain features not in Ensemble, I
type my original document in my WordPerfect 6.0 Windows, save it as
WordPerfect 5.0 or 5.1, and import it into my GEOS desktop. That to
me is a much cleaner way of handling the matter than what you described
as your method. But I rarely need to do that. Most all of my stuff
is done in Ensemble. When I scan text (with the little Write utility
of Windows 3.1), I save the DOS icon right to my GEOS desktop and go
straight there to import it and delete the scan icon. I think I've
done two original documents in WordPerfect for my canine newspaper
since putting that program on my computer several months ago to do
occasional freelance secretarial work at home for a couple of solo
practitioner lawyers I know. As I said before, I'd like to have
those features, but I can manage very well without them. They're
not important enough to justify changing my desktop publishing
program from Ensemble to something else.
