| subject: | Telstra/Motorola 56k announcement |
Russell, at 06:52 on Mar 04 1997, you wrote to Bill Grimsley... AM>> Telstra Big Pond Internet customers will be among the first in the world AM>> to gain access to 56Kbps modem technology with the launch of Motorolas new AM>> generation of ModemSURFR high speed modems. BG> Can we now expect a lemming-like mass suicide from The Gap by thousands of BG> heart-broken USR zealots (taking their useless x2 Couriers with them)? :) RB> NO...NO...Eat your words Mr GRIM..SLEY I'd like to, but I simply can't see x2 taking off in a big way in Oz when you consider that USRs would realistically account for perhaps less than 10% of the total installed base of ISP modems, and I doubt that all of those will be upgraded to (or replaced with) x2-capability anyway. This is probably one occasion where it will be advantageous to be running Rockwell-based modems, and let's face it, within a year or two, they'll both be obsolete anyway...
