Yair - I agree. I was stunned when it took 20 seconds to run through
the 128 characters. My QBasic version does it instantaneously. But if
you use an external crc calculator, you may as well do it properly and
configure it in a single dat file (including control.dat), and just
use Telemate to send the string. Brenton's way to do it is still
probably best (with the extra config program buit in).

RS> Clearly one way to prove absolutely if a CRC calculator is

I did! Paul's calculator works okay if you use all capitals. It was
a bit tricky using a string AND a file to do the ascii conversions,
but it worked... and it was case insensitive.

RS> Sure, never said anything about that, I was just commenting on

RS> do a CRC calculator in Telemate. It may or may not be true.

Actually, I have already thought of a way to do it. All I need is
two entirely separate strings for upper and lower case, converting
ASC() and CHR$(), but the crc calculation is already too slow and this
will only make it worse - and I've lost interest stuffing around with
inadeqate tools. It's much more fun in QBasic to do more complicated
stuff.

You get too upset about my use of absolutes, Rod. It is no great
revelation to anyone that nothing in the Universe is absolute - and
that's another one! .

Bob
