Bingo! You finally nailed it although it looks like your test is also utf8.
Your quote back of Møøse telss the tale though, or at least indicates that
your editor isn't screwing up the original codes.

You too. For the record the "CHRS: UTF-8" is not needed since utf8 characters
are obvious and no utf8 capable app will use it anyhow. The CHRS kludge is a
total waste of bytes even for 8 bit character sets simply because it cannot be
trusted. In the case of utf8 characters, they are obvious with or without a
CHRS kludge so there really isn't a need.
