I've not run one, but a local young chap tried running a BBS with one of
these and had frightful problems, eventually giving up.  I had one other
BBS caller with one, and he never did get it setup right, either.  It may
have only been setup problems, but it amounts to a headache either way. 
From that, I'd have to endorse what you and Dave Hatch have to say ..
