BK> Hey guys, could anyones suggest me a plan for a subwoofer box. Just
BK> gave me a general plan that could match with any sub! It should be 12
BK> inch and maybe I will use it in my home theatre.
A driver of any size will make sound in any size box. To get the
best sound from a given driver for a given frequency range, the box
and the driver must be complimentary. If you want a terrific sub
with the minimum of effort, a 12" used by NHT (NHT 1259) is available
from "just speakers" in the San Francisco area. It is a part of a
multi-thousand priced speaker system from NHT. The driver is about
$125 and the box materials, depending how you want to finish them, can
be gotten for under $100. The box can be from 3 cuft to 4 cuft
volume with a polyfill stuffing. This type of box design is very
forgiving when used with this type of driver. This is why it will
produce superior results for a beginner. The box must be strong and
completely airtight. If you have no wood working skills, you might
look for a well made box of those dimensions already made. A good box
is hard to build right and should not be tried by one not experienced
in wood working. Boxes are produced by several manufactures. Based on
the nature of your question, I presume that you are a beginner in
building speakers. I would recommend teaming up with a more
experienced builder who can help you avoid many common mistakes.
If used with an electronic crossover or the subwoofer out on an av
receiver, they will produce very good clean bass to below 30 hz with
no difficulty.
