subject: Tascam PB-32 patch bay

Does anyone here have any experience with the Tascam PB-32 patch bay? I
ask because of one that I "inherited" when the company I work for set up
its first sound studio. It was a used piece of equipment that was
purchased for a rather low price by the people who actually assembled the
rack, and it did not come with any manuals at all.
Before I go any further, let me warn those reading this that I am still in
the learning phase of the Pro Audio aspects of my job. I got the position
based on my music writing experience and am expected to learn how to handle
the studio "on-the-job." The rack part of the studio was already assembled
and wired before I took it over, so I didn't get to pick its components.
I'm learning quickly how it works, what it does, and to handle it, but I'm
not yet 100% up to speed. So, please forgive any errors in the terminology
that follows - corrections would be most welcome.
Anyway, the patch bay seems to be normalled, in that inputs in the top back
part default to being routed to the outputs at the bottom of the backside.
The connections can be overridden from the front by inserting a standard
1/4" plug into either of the jacks, top or bottom. I have yet to figure
out if the connections can be multed, but it doesn't seem that they can.
None of the combinations that I've tried will allow a mix of an input
signal from the front with the signal being fed from the back. It acts
like it takes either full default routing or full override, but nothing in
between.
We have purchased a dbx PB-48 as an additional bay. It was a new piece of
equipment (factory box w/manual), so I know that I can mult signals and
even defeat normalling on it if I want to. However, I can't solve my
problem by dumping the Tascam completely - we will still be using it as a
secondary bay for the time being.
What I'd like to do is use the dbx PB-48 with all of its bays normalled,
and use the Tascam with normalling defeated on most of its circuits. This
way, I can use the dbx's newer circuits for my default routings, and use
the Tascam mainly as an "input/output router" for devices that don't need a
default routing. I still need some of the Tascam's bays normalled, though,
due to the number of devices we're plugging in. Unfortunately, without
some sort of manual or schematic, I have no way of figuring out how to
change the Tascam's bays or use them to mult signals.
Does anyone out there have a manual for this bay? If so, I'd be willing to
pay postage and duplication fees to get a copy of it. If this isn't
practical, any other advice on how to use the Tascam to its fullest would
be greatly appreciated.
Thanks in advance for your assistance!
