Hey Kees!

KvE> It seems that Golded is a wee complex and needs changes all over
 KvE> the place.

I've said it before and perhaps it is worth repeating; they are porting the
wrong way. Ports from a Unix enviroment to a MS enviroment (or other) are more
likely to produce desirable results whereas ports from MS to Linux are
definetly a total waste of time and bytes, nevermind any other Unixie
enviroment. There is a very good reason why most of the "good stuff" in a MS
enviroment has it's origins in BSD.

KvE> A recent remark talked about chances on MSSGed supporting UTF
KvE> were better, allbeit only for the linux version.

Are you listening Benny? I believe I said this AGES ago to you. ;-)

I think the real reason for this is because there is no c++ code in msged.
That in itself can and does make a real difference when thinking about porting
to a Unix enviroment.

KvE> Up till now I have fair results with a prototype using Python3 and
TkInter.

I recently saw a BBS that used python based curses module(s) to handle utf8
character posting. It worked like a charm but lacked fidonet support, which
isn't really needed on the frontend. Only when packing to a fidonet link is
ftn support for their crappy headers required. ;-)

KvE> as the CHAR kludges is often missing or does not correspond with
KvE> the encoding of the message.

Bingo! Also you could have added that some of the aliases are total bullshit
such as LATIN-1.

KvE> UTF-8 was one of the options.

Excellent ... especially if it actually works. ;-)

Too bad about the telnet connectivity as it would have been an attractive
option here. I haven't had telnet working here for ages now as I don't trust
it on boxes with internet or wireless networking. Unfortunetly too much can
and does go wrong on untrusted telnet connections not to mention the BBS's that
rely on telnet that have shoddy DOS-think terminal support.

Kids these days eh?  :::sigh:::

Life is good,
Maurice

... Don't cry for me I have vi.
