You haven't been around modems long enough to remember that some NetComms
cost as much as $2200, yet were less reliable than today's $120 cheapies. 
I already own at least 4 square inches of their marble staircase, and I
really don't plan on investing in any more for the time being.   Their
rather unfortunate habit of charging ~$400 for replacement boards, even
while the modem was still under warranty, did little to endear them to the
general public either.  Dave Hatch will be more than happy to add his two
bob's worth too, I expect...  :)
