Jerry:

You've got spunk, not afraid are you?

I think you need some more info and resources. how about ATM books 1,2,3?
Do you have these?

Do you know the 3 piece test technique? There's a way to determine if the
interference fringes are from concavity or convexity, doing a simple calc
and then figuring how flat each one is. Once you've got a good flat piece,
there's your reference.

You could borrow a flat. How big is your biggest diagonal? I've got
4" & 6" flats if you want to borrow one.

Anyway, you'll be doing some fine grinding of the block of flats, then
flash polish for 20 minutes until you can check the surface with your test.
if you're within 1 wave, you finish polish and figure.

Pop them off the runner (backing disk), recheck to make sure no strains
were excessive, and send to the coater.

Hi Colin,
I have a piece of 5/8" plate that is approximately 18" x
24". I was planning to cut the pieces for the diagonals (I need
three) from this. I could use the balance to mount them on for grinding and
polishing. I am still researching the details of how to do this. I am
getting excited about this project since my primary is basically done,
short of an imense amount of testing to make sure that it is right this
time. But I haave to have clear skies for really good testing conditions,
which I haven't had for about two weeks. Lets talk about the blocking wax.
Obviously, I need it, and I didn't know that so I have some more research
to do. Clear skies, Jerry
