| subject: | NVRAM lifetime |
JP> Am I correct in my understanding that NVRAM can be only written to a JP> limited number of times, or do the high-quality modems offer NVRAM with an JP> unlimited write-life? There are NVRAM types offering a write life of 5000 or so. These are fairly elderly, and by now probably relatively cheap. (Translate = better profits for the gougers. We are beginning to know who those are.) There are later types with much better write life. I have no idea whether these have made it into modems as yet. There was, at one time, a model or two using battery backed CMOS RAM to get around this limitation. JP> Can anyone confirm or deny this for the Courier V.Everything? I can't at this writing - either way. I operate (as always) on the assumption of a strictly limited write life, which is safe with either outcome.
