Ah! That makes sense. Have you tried the telnet that comes with GNU's
inetutils? I currently don't have it or any other telnet client as I haven't
used telnet for ages now. ssh is best and utf8 characters definetly work. I
know this for a fact as I use it daily especially on wireless connections.
