About a month ago I started translating a Russian ATM book by Sikoruk. It
contains good info on grinding, polishing, testing, mounts, eyepieces, etc.
 I've translated about 65 pages of 240, so you could say I'm a bit past the
one quarter mark.  I hope it will not take another three months to finish. 
As my skill in Russian slowly grows, and my vocabulary for ATM related
topics grows a bit faster...I hope to have a first draft done in two more
months.

I am translating the 1982 edition.  An expanded, 1991 edition was also
published, but I only have hard copy of the '82 version.  (I can't stand
spending so many hours staring at a monitor, so I'll keep plugging away on
this paper version.  Later, if I consider the '91 edition worth
translating, then I'll download that and start grinding out more pages.
However, it'll have to have lots of new ATM techniques/procedures, not wave
theory of light lectures and other theoretical topics.)

I will also compile my list of notes that briefly summarize significant
differences between Russian ATM practices and US ATM practices as I've come
to know them.  If you are lazy, then this condensed set of notes may be all
you are interested in reading...or a starting point to decide if this book
has anything new to offer you.

You may need to adjust the encoding of your web browser to have the
Cyrillic letters properly displayed.  (In Internet Explorer the
menu/command is:  View/Encoding/Cyrillic ...and there are three Cyrillic
options to choose from.  One option will work properly...such as Windows
Cyrillic.  (Netscape owners will have to chime in here to explain how to
change their encoding options.)

What about when I finish this project?  I've got two books by Maksutov to
work on...and in the fall/winter, when the cloudy season arrives, I'll have
more time to translate.
