True. Which has gotten me thinking that maybe Mandrake (and the other
distro's) need to change the basic way they do an install.
How about having the initial install just install a basic system - kernel,
basic libraries, KDE or Gnome, and some of the system control stuff.
Basically to equivalence with a Windows install.
Then have an app (Mandrake already sorta has this) who's purpose is to
introduce and install any other software wanted or needed. With
explanations.
I also think that the distros need to get together (United Linux might be a
good start) and start insisting that unless a software package comes with
adequate documentation (and help files)... and a "man page" alone
isn't adequate - then they won't include it.
Could do wonders for both the confusion level and the documentation levels
of packages.
The documentation doesn't even need to be on the CD per se - esp. if it's a
program that requires internet access (like Postfix).
