Independant thinking?  Isn't that a euphemism for non-conformist?  The 
politically correct expression is outside talent.  BTW, what reward do you 
recommend for Quebec?
Perhaps Joseph Cambell discussed this in his book 'The Hero with a Thousand 
Faces'.  Basically, the hero's revelation is profound insight for the 
community.
