Ah! Just needs the --enable-utf8 switch in configure and/or the proper unicode
variables set in your enviroment. Enviroment settings can be global or per
user. I prefer per user setting in bash scripts as then I am not married to
any particular locale and that way be a Dane when I need to be ... such as in
this reply.
