Yes, I'm on some lists, and I even know which one was the
reason for the post because it's one with the convention of putting
the list name (abbreviated) in brackets as the first word of the
subject.
But the header did not indicate the anonymous post had
gone to the list server.
I had no information in response to the anonymous poster's
request, so I didn't reply. If I had something to reply I would
have sent it to the list, you note.
I don't get newsgroups, although at least one list I used
to subscribe to, and may again, was echoed to a newsgroup. But
the list owner (after several bad experiences) had it set so that
posts could not be made to the newsgroup; if someone reading it in
the newsgroup format wanted to post to list/newsgroup, they had to
subscribe to the list and address it to the list address. (The list
owner set this rule, also in effect on some other lists, to reduce
spam. The list owner noted that you could subscribe to the list and
set it to NOMAIL and continue to read it as a newsgroup, and posts
you sent to the list would be accepted because you were a
subscriber.)
