It's extremely predictable.   A T200 of the faulty design will cause either
a sudden noise burst, or complete disconnection, about 12 to 18 minutes
into your call.  The time interval is constant for any particular phone -
it's dependent on the exact discharge curve of your unit.

It does its dirty work when in paralell with the modem.  If you're lucky
enough to have one of the older modems which isolate the phone socket,
they're immune to interference of this kind from phones cascaded from the
phone socket on the modem.  (Three cheers for Austel and our local creep
for disposing of this capability - forward into the new dark ages...)
