Really, I must have been lucky, I usually tell them I'm moving into their
area and am looking for service. Had good luck getting them to fax the info
as well.

Just about all of the Mitsubishi phones that I have seen have that feature,
at least the ones who's esn's begin with 134d or 86h. A lot of those phones
also have a diagnostic mode that is accessable from the handset. Check the
Curtis Namfax book for details on the diag mode.
A friend just bought an Oki, 1325 or something like that, I'm pretty sure I
saw a status monitor when I went thru the manual.
I have not seen it on any Unidens or Motorola phones.
