..the second question: how many Browne supporters
are also Rush Limbaugh fans? I doubt if you'd find a
single one in the Nader camp...
                -----------------------------------------------------
Hi, L P.
Up front, you are right. Browne is so far the only candidate that is
openly for legalizing marijuana. In fact Nader dislikes even smoking
tobacco (and I am a cigarette smoker) and this is due to the health
costs, not as a matter of prejudicial intollerance. So if *I* do
not put aside my own self interests in the interest of pooling
wisdom, I doubt that I'd have much of a right to ask others to do the
same. I'd like tombacco to remain easily accessible and also to see
hemp legalized--especially as an "energy crop" to get rid of nukes
and fossil fuels. So I am looking at both candidates in terms of
FUTURE potentials. And that concern is what leads me to the
following...
-=> Quoting L P to Guy George <=-
GG> Hi, Rocky. It seems that you'd be the fellow to ask. And if
GG> not, perhaps L P can help me out. Both of you are welcome to
 GG> respond, however.
LP> Ralph Nader's presidential candidacy is often greeted by the
LP> argument that support for third parties is "throwing away your
 LP> vote."

GG> * Where does the Libertarian party stand on Affirmative Action?

GG> * Where do they stand on the militia movements?

GG> * Who is looking at the prison slavery issue in terms of racism?
GG> Are the Libertarians planning to reverse this dreadful ativism
GG> that the Republicans have brought upon us?

GG> Anybody got any help on this? What are
GG> the actual roots of the Liberarian party?
 GG>                 =========================================
LP> It is easy to get sidetracked off of the NORML echo topics when
LP> discussing the politics of prohibition. This is especially so
LP> when discussing political candidates and party platforms. You
LP> can hardly talk about drug prohibition without getting into
LP> broader civil rights and liberties issues.
Broader civil rights... issues. This is so true!
LP> In addressing marijuana politics, I feel like I can *mention*
LP> candidates' beliefs on subjects other than marijuana and
LP> prohibition but try to leave *discussion* regarding topics other
LP> than marijuana and related issues to more appropriate areas, such
LP> as CIVLIB, GUNS, and RTKBA. Otherwise, there is too great a
LP> danger of this echo losing its focus and benefit. We have a
LP> high signal-to-noise ratio here, and I would like to continue
 LP> this.
Don't get me wrong, L P. Your uploads are informative, and the time
you spend tossing us ideas to consider and informing the public is
GREATLY appreciated. Let me consider the rest of your words
silently, though this silence does not mean that I will not return
to some of the points you raise in the future.
But I did find the answers to some of my questions and two new
questions that you might be interested in considering as well.
GG> * Who is looking at the prison slavery issue in terms of racism?
GG> Are the Libertarians planning to reverse this dreadful ativism
GG> that the Republicans have brought upon us?
Browne DOES say, "we need to stop filling up the prisons with
non-violent people who pose no threat to society..."
But Nader, in addition to being in agreement on this point, is the
only one who has put the penal system into the light of *racism*.
Browne's well conceived, intelligent, and practical approach is
lacking full consciousness in this regard. Nothing at all on race
politics or racism.
And since this is a conspicuous absence in the current Civil Rights
movement, I thought that you yourself might be the kind of guy that
might want to look into this as well.
And that understanding brought me to the second question: how many
Browne supporters are also Limbaugh fans? I doubt if you'd find a
single one in the Nader camp, my friend.
(I'll continue to think about this stuff in silence now. And thanks
again for all of your good work in this echo and elsewhere.)
