Mike, if your server has a T3 link, you are sharing a 45Mbps connect with 
every other caller on the system.  If 2000 callers are on the system, you 
have an average of 22Kbps per caller.  Given the highly graphic nature of 
many web sites, chat sites and the like, you can easily saturate that T3 
line.  Other web sites may not have the benefit of a T3 link -- several that 
I access run on T1 (1.5Mbps) and lesser lines.  One ftp site that I access 
gives me a 1 to 1.2 kilobytes per second transfer rate.  A data rate that my 
old v.32/v.42 modem could come close to keeping up with.  I haven't noticed 
any improvements with v.34 or x2.
