Not exactly sure what you mean here. There are options to enable/disable either
the tearline and/or origin line in sbbsecho's configuration. When I was
accessing Synchronet's message bases with Golded, I was using Golded's tearline
and sbbsecho's origin line.

So it's all optional, in either program. So where is it forcing itself on
everyone?
