Cable modems are available from your local cable television company when/if
they get around to supporting them. One problem with cable modems is that
your bandwidth is shared with all other users on the line. That is, if they
have 500Kbps bandwidth and 50 users, each user gets a massive 10kbps if all
are on at once and transferring data.
I do have one friend who lives in an area where cable modems were undergoing
a trial run. When there was no one else on, they screamed. When the system
go loaded, it was worse than his 14k4 modem.
