"Better options" depends on what you want to do with it.  MSMail doesn't
have the features of groupwise or lotus notes, but it has suited us just
fine. (20 users)  And it's a heck of a lot cheaper - I also have set up a
proxy server to share a single internet connection.  - This integrates
fine - it's all in the mail client (we are using a combination of exchange
and outlook).
