For sure. I believe it extends from at least the Mexican/US border north
to Alaska along the Pacific coast. Not sure about Mexico but it wouldn't
surprise me if there was a large Japanese - and other Asians - presence
there as well.

Exactly. The article where I read it quite some time ago had a well known
Japanese chef opening the first sushi bar in Vancouver with one in San
Fransico pulling up a close second. Either that or the other way around
but I seem to recall Vancouver being first. I'll have to see if I can find
that article again to confirm my memory of it.
