Hello, Anatoliy!
It was 30 Apr 04 19:00, when Anatoliy Kovalenko scribbled to Winston Smith:
WS>> I wish to be tutored in the format of Russian telephone numbers....
AK> The format of Russian numbers is as follows:
AK> (XXX) YYY-ZZZZ
AK> XXX - city code, for Moscow it is 095.
AK> YYY - automatic telephone exchange number (we call it "ATC
number").
AK> ZZZZ - abonent number within the specified ATC.
English-speakers are used to think that "ATC" means
"Air-Traffic Control", which is in Russian
"авиадиспетчерская" :)
2ALL: Anatoliy meant, that "ATC" is PBX, a Phone Branch eXchange.
AK> So if you see a number like (095) 912-1234 it means that the number
AK> belongs to a person who lives in the center of Moscow (912 ATC is
AK> somewhere near Taganskaya Metro Station). Metro means the underground
AK> railway system in Russia.
Or that means a subway as it used to be in US :)
Best wishes,
Mix.
