MF> Yeeek.. Crusaders are a tad old?
CT> That's what I've been looking for, Pre-F4 Phantom era. :-)
Not my field then i'm afraid ;) But i'll do my best...
MF> ----
CT> Aww!
Heheheh i'm sowwy....
MF> Hmmmmm..... not quite accurate but pretty damned close ;) Umm
MF> everythings gone to the F-18 Hornet now, and all classes carry at
MF> least one C-2 Greyhound as far as i'm aware... or I thought so anyway.
CT> They probably do when in range of friendly bases, but they
CT> might forego them in blue water operations.
Hmmm you reckon?... yeah *maybe*. You'd usually need at least 4 E-2C
aircraft on board, so Id imagine fitting an extra C-2 might be a
problem... but by the same token they'll quite often need a cargo carry
capacity...
MF> More often than not its a land-to-ship hop theyre doing not
MF> viceversa.
CT> Gotta have the mail! :-)
Nach! :) And ferry the bigwigs...
CT> was another class of carrier after the war, nicknamed the C-F(?) class
CT> that might have been a WWII carrier with an add-on angled flight deck,
MF> I must remember to look on the internet.. I used to have material on
MF> carriers but its walked on me :(
CT> Those other carriers were the 27C modification of existing
CT> WWII hulls, the modification involved adding an angled flight deck for
CT> the new jets that came on the scene. Other carriers (or classes) I've
CT> seen mentioned were the Independence (1959), Ranger (1957), Saratoga
CT> (1956), Forrestal (1955), and the Midway (1944). The Coral Sea (1947)
CT> was used for training and other "contingencies".
Yeah.. I have heard of most of them ;) Ummm wasnt the Forrestal still
used for training or something?
CT> So far I haven't found any print references to examine, but
CT> hopefully this week I can find the time to hit up the main library and
CT> see what I can find.
Id be interested to see ;)
