i kinda figured it was... we used to do that at the shop i work in until i
discovered that they ran just fine as slave when they are the only device on
the bus... so we quite switching them from slave to master and that saved us
a few steps in the builds and in later drive additions... not only the few
steps but upwards of ten minutes on the later drive additions 'cause we don't
have to remove the cd and switch the jumper ;-)

you could switch it back and try it if you like... i don't know that i'd go
thru all that just to see...

i remember reading something that one of the drivers (ATAPI?) insisted on the
CD being set to slave... figured it couldn't hurt to have you try it ;-)
