Hello Bob! 17 Jul 10 16:26, you wrote to Tim Richardson: TR>> I find it disgusting that, in a country where there are TR>> elaborate ways to check the ID of someone buying alchohol TR>> or tobacco, and there are stiff penalties for using false TR>> ID to purchase either one of those products, something as TR>> important as voting to elect local and national figures who TR>> will determine our policy and how the public moneys gets TR>> spent, gets a pass. BK> Yet there is a big problem with underage drinking, there is BK> little problem with illegal voting. The US attorney scandal BK> under Bush was about some US Attorneys who got reports of voter BK> fraud, from republican congress critters, and found the reports BK> were phony. So they got fired for not pulling off a political BK> witch hunt. Remember, these were republican US attorneys, BK> political appointees. No stay on point Bob, dont blame everything on Bush.. You people would blame the event that made the Dinosauers extinct on Bush if you could.. What is wrong with requiring voters to identify themselves when they go to the polls to vote? A. One has to present ID when stopped by a Police Officer. B. One has to present ID when applying for fishing and hunting licenses. C. One has to present ID to buy a firearm. D. One has to present ID when writing checks to merchants. E. One has to present ID to open up accounts at financial institutions. F. One has to present ID when applying for credit to purchase an automobile, Home etc. In fact the purchase of the Automobile itself requires ID. As I understand it, the objection to voter ID requirements is that it supposedly puts a burden on the poor or it supposedly targets minorities??? Yet there is no objection to A-F, granted a poor person is less likely to do some of them in the daily course of their lives. So what is wrong with requiring ID at the polls, every state issues a acceptable ID card in the absence of a drivers license? == Ross Fidonet Feeds Or Fidonet In Your Newsreader: http://www.easternstar.info E-mail: ross(at)cassell(dot)us | Other Places: http://links.cassell.us Things To Remember: The government can't give to anybody anything that the government does not first take from somebody else.
