Aha!  Yeah that explains it and I am sure it'll show up in Friday's update.

That explains the BOM at the beginning of your actual text message just before,
"-=> Maurice Kinal wrote to Tony Langdon <=-" on the first line.  I should have
guessed given I've seen it used before in Fidonet and it did the exact same
thing at the first byte of the actual, printable text message.

For the record the BOM is unneeded in utf-8 but it doesn't hurt anything if it
is there.

No doubt about that here.  I have yet to see any Fidonet app get it right other
than ones that call up non-native editors such as you and I are doing.
