RC>>> People such as you should also stop villifying a companies
RC>>> pursuit of profits, companies do not purposefully exist to lose
RC>>> money.
BA>> Nor do they exist solely to screw their help, their suppliers or their
BA>> customers (Wal-Mart being a salient exception to that rule).
RC> I am not going to join in on any criticism of Walmart...
RC> Let me tell you why...
RC> I worked for Kmart for 7 years, it was my first job, I
RC> worked for Kmart during the time when they were the nations
...
RC> bluelight, no Deli and no Grill, say what you want about
RC> Kmart then, the Deli and the Grill were good. Other than
RC> that, there wasnt too much to differentiate the two, except
RC> I believe Kmart merchandised the Sporting Goods Dept alot
RC> better.
Their grill was good.
RC> Kmart got complacent, they thought themselves at then 2000
RC> stores strong, uncatchable, unstoppable and unbeatable.
Typical.
RC> One thing that Walmart did to make themselves the
RC> juggernaut they are today, is they put stores in smalltown
RC> USA, whereas Kmart stayed only in the suburbs or in major
RC> towns.
And in so doing established the pattern of wiping out the local
business.
...
RC> As to how they treated their help, cant disagree based on
RC> what I have read in the past.
They depend on a low wage economy for their existance. If we
didn't have an official govt policy of holding down wages Wall
Mart would be in trouble.
RC> What would be killer is, if Walmart ever really really
RC> focused on Customer Service, similiar to Home Depot, they
RC> would destroy everybody.
Nope. They could not do business in any other way and stay so
large. Not without changing everything about the business other
than the name. Then other companies would find it easier to
compete.
