True but in this case we also steal the characters, é in this case, which
isn't standard operating procedures in word borrowing circles.

Which I believe led to middle English from old English a few centuries later. 
However in that case characters from old English were dropped and I don't
believe that any of the French ones were picked up (eg é).  Please correct me
if I am wrong as I think this later behavior might just be uniquely Canadian
and, if so, worthy of a "Heritage Moment".  :::snicker:::
