They are being altered by your editor. Most real world editors, even old DOS
ones, leave those characters alone despite that they cannot display them
properly. Fidonet editors, even new releases that claim utf8 compatibilty, are
totally incapable from what I've seen thus far. Old DOS editors used in
offline seem to be the best ... other than REAL utf8 compatible editors that
is. So far vim is the winner in this category although there are a few others
(eg nano).

Heh, heh. Considering our new fashion plate Prime Minister I suppose anything
is possible. Mind you I don't have nice hair though. ;-)
