In case something happened to the original.  If the tape got eaten up or
the DVD got scratched.
I don't know about that either.  I don't know why it would be, but I don't
think I've heard about that being a problem.  Who knows?

Well, I'm not arguing for it or against it in this message, but I think
it's one thing if it's to try it out to make sure you're not buying
something you don't like, and another if the person is trying to be cheap.
I think bands and labels should just let you listen to it online to make
sure you like it.  I think it's called streaming audio when you can listen
to it without downloading it.  I think MP3.com did that, but as far as I
know, everthing on that site was OK to listen to/download.

I don't know how many people fit into the category of being cheap and not
caring about buying it and how many into the category of previewing,
though.

Maybe they get permission first?  When I go to music stores, like one
tonight, where people can sample songs, the sample were only segments.
