JD> Hello All, JD> What Files managers have you experience with, and recommend? File managers in what way? MFM? [If I remember the name correctly....] That one allows one to move files between maximus file areas, and updates the entries in the files.bbs. Also has some other features. It's been a while since I've used it. MFM only allows one screen full of area names (multi-column) before what you see on the screen gets screwy.... And I now have too many file areas for a nice display, at least the way I run here..... Program allows you to purge "off-line" file entries, sort by file name (extention?) or date, and a number of other nice functions..... I don't remember if I used my multi-line line descriptions with this program.... And I don't remember the file.bbs line length limit with the tool. Allfix? This is the only utility some one else has paid to put on my system. [The local net wanted me setup quickly to take over hub duties when I became NEC. And the person helping me new Allfix.... I didn't have time to investigate the alternatives and test them at that time....] This handles my .TIC file processing. I don't use it for much other activity. TICK? It's busted due to memory constraints and the size of the file bone listing.... :( Or at least it did brake due to size some time ago.... SEAL? If you use version 0.50, you need to fix something after a clean install. I don't remember what. Version 0.40 is also available. Author lost source code after releasing 0.50, so no bug fixes will ever come for this program. For file listings? I'd have to look up what I'm using...... JD> Same question for programs that import file_id.diz to JD> files.bbs, if not part of the files manager. I don't import file_id.diz into my files.bbs. Most of my files come in from the Fidonet file bone, and so I use descriptions in the .TIC files that go in my FILES.BBS files. JD> Thanks You're welcome. I hope the above helped. [Bo: What are you working on for use on Linux systems? I know you've got a plan up your sleave concerning this. ] Take care.....
