You said you put the old drive back in and it hangs at the MSDOS banner. The
first thing I would want to do is get my old system back, but it sounds as
though something must have changed in the BIOS while you were updating the HD.
Put the BIOS, cables etc. back to original and press f8 as soon as the MSDOS
banner appears and you can step through the boot sequence to see what is causing
the hang.
