Hi Wendy,
RH> I invested in a set of these EZ Winders; you can wind a spool of

WB> Are these things expensive? I tried Julia's trick but my spool
WB> (styrofoam) was a small one -- it was the only styro one I had.
I paid about $15.00 for this thing and 4 spools. Another 4 spools cost
about a dollar each. It may be a bit pricey at first but I know it will
pay for itself over the years as I won't have to buy several
cones/spools of thread for large projects. I have 2 spools from it, plus
the cone they were wound from, on my serger now for the wedding dresses.
WB> The cones are much less expensive to use but I don't want to
WB> have to spend ten bucks on an adapter to use them.
An adapter to use cone thread on the sewing machine is only about $5.00.
I got mine on a half price sale back in 1992 shortly after we came back
from Germany; believe me, it's one "small" investment that has saved a
lot of money--there are some colors of thread I go thru like water and
being able to use the cone thread over the spool is a big savings. If
you do large amounts of sewing, these gadgets are well worth the money.
Catch you later,
Ruth
