Russell If that were the case we here in India would have never been able to make mirrors,and we do. Temps here are usually of the order of body temp. Why dont you try a harder lap or may just plain old tar for the lap. It does not seem to affected easily by temps around 40 deg C unlike fancy pitches like you guys use. I have been using tar and although I have had many problems never a turned edge till now except by my use of a wrong stroke.
